When selling your home, it is important to remember that you have a "product" that you are selling - a product that must be appealing and desirable to potential buyers. Product manufacturers know that one of the most important elements to selling a product is its packaging.
When selling a home, you must ensure it is "packaged" well. While there are many elements to packaging your home, the elimination of clutter is vitally important. So, what is clutter? A simple definition is "stuff that doesn't need to be where it is." Interesting definition, huh. Usually, if you think something is clutter, it probably is. So, what can you do about clutter? Remove knick-knacks, paperwork and unnecessary items from tables, counters and shelves; take down some pictures from the walls; and pick up toys, newspapers, pet toys, etc. off the floor. When it comes to clutter, if you are not sure whether to remove something, go ahead and do it anyway.
Don't remove everything, however; some "stuff" on shelves and counters is appropriate and makes the room look better. Clutter should be eliminated from all rooms but pay particular attention to the kitchen and bathrooms as these rooms are often looked at by buyers with a critical eye.
Just remember... less it better.
