A home to be sold is a “product” and, like any product, must be packaged attractively to sell. A seller’s home will sell faster and for more money when it’s packaged right, inside and out. This means that “curb appeal” is critical. The home must look appealing when buyers first drive up and see the property. If a home is unattractive on the outside, many buyers will drive right on by and not even look inside. A seller can create curb appeal by painting the exterior, ensuring the landscaping is nice, moving trash cans and debris away from the front of the home, and having the entryway and windows clean.
The inside, of course, is also vital to the packaging of the home. Clutter and “stuff” should be eliminated from sight, kitchen and bathroom counters should be clean and clutter-free, beds should be made, floors and carpets should be clean, and unnecessary furniture and other items should be placed in storage. In addition, when the home is shown, window coverings should be open and all lights turned on. A bright clean home shows best.
